ATLANTA — Nov. 22, 2021 — Songy Highroads is pleased to announce the opening of its newest hospitality property, the Hyatt Centric Buckhead Atlanta hotel located in the heart of the largest shopping and entertainment center in the Southeast.
The Hyatt Centric Buckhead Atlanta is scheduled to open in mid-December adjacent to Bloomingdale’s at Lenox Square in Atlanta’s affluent commercial and residential district of Buckhead. It has 218 guest rooms and suites, with upscale dining and dual indoor/outdoor rooftop lounges that offer expansive panoramic views of the entire Atlanta skyline from Buckhead to Midtown and Downtown.
SHR began developing the highly visible hotel site in a joint venture with Hyatt Hotels Corporation in early 2020, and the firm is enthusiastic about the long-term appeal of a stylish boutique hotel with sought-after dining in the center of Buckhead.
“This is one of the most high-profile sites in Buckhead for a boutique hotel with fine dining and rooftop lounges, and it will be a desirable destination for casual gatherings, private events and special occasions for many years to come,” said Todd W. Nocerini, President and Chief Operating Officer at SHR.
The hotel is home to a modern Montreal steakhouse called Mount Royal, which is run by James Beard
Award-winning chef Hugh Acheson, whose other restaurants include Five & Ten, Empire State South and by George. The menu fuses French cooking techniques with Southern hospitality, and will change often based on seasonal vegetables, fruit and other ingredients sourced from local farmers and artisans.
The rooftop is anchored by Spaceman, a bar and sports lounge with an elevated menu of shareable bites plus wine, beer and expertly crafted cocktails created by a master mixologist. With indoor seating plus dual outdoor patios, Spaceman has green upholstered oversize sectional sofas and accent pillows with jaunty geometric patterns and panoramic views of the entire skylines of Buckhead, Midtown and Downtown. Oversized TVs will stream live sports events and there are casual yard games and other activities for a festive vibe. Spaceman can also be rented for private parties and corporate events. Both restaurants were designed by The Johnson Studio at Cooper Carry, one of Atlanta’s leading design firms for hospitality.
Inspired by Georgia’s ancient native pottery heritage and Buckhead’s modern designation as a fashion destination, the hotel was designed by New York-based Sawyer & Company. Guest rooms have wallpaper that mimics the crackled glazing on pottery and organic earthenware shapes, with a chevron pattern on headboards and pops of dusty red that echo Georgia red clay. The lobby has a casual lounge area, curated art and decorative elements that pay homage to the location’s history.
The reception area features a floral stenciled wall, a light installation of woven pendant shades in the shape of pottery, a collection of stoneware, and a terracotta accent wall. A mural in the rear of the building by artist Lenia Castro of Buckhead Murals shows the growth and development of Atlanta and the state of Georgia.
“We are excited to begin welcoming guests to our property and serve as a launchpad for travelers to explore the best that Atlanta has to offer,” said Kristi Cotten, general manager of Hyatt Centric Buckhead Atlanta. “From our 15th-floor rooftop with panoramic views of the beautiful city skyline to our seven stunning suites, two restaurants led by an incredible James Beard Award-winning chef and design that pays homage to the artistic history of Georgia, our hotel will be full of personality and truly unlike any other in the neighborhood.”
FOOD & BEVERAGE: MOUNT ROYAL & SPACEMAN
James Beard Award-winning chef and author Hugh Acheson, owner of Five & Ten and Empire State South, and Christopher Wilkins, owner of Root Baking Co. and Pizza Jeans, will bring elevated international fare to the Atlanta dining scene with their two forthcoming restaurants at Hyatt Centric Buckhead Atlanta. The restaurants will be led by chef Sam Herndon, former chef de cuisine at Empire State South and Staplehouse.
The main dining space connected to the lobby lounge will be Mount Royal, a Montreal-style steakhouse that will combine the culinary diversity of Quebec with local products from farmers and artisans in southeast Georgia. The welcoming restaurant will be open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and provide to-go service for contactless guestroom delivery. The second dining venue will be Spaceman, an indoor- outdoor rooftop lounge located on the 15th floor. It will feature craft cocktails and a simple menu of artfully composed shareable dishes. The thoughtfully designed dining area will be comprised of interior seating flanked by two outdoor terraces complete with lounge seating, yard games, and stunning views of the Atlanta skyline.
MEETING & EVENT SPACE
The hotel’s airy second floor meetings and events space will feature accent wall coverings and art pieces reflecting the pottery design concept. All spaces will have built-in wet bar areas and feature floor-to- ceiling windows and lounge seating. The 3,702 square feet of total meeting and social space includes a total of six distinct areas: three meeting rooms (Stoneware, Fuller’s Earth and Kaolin), one large social space (Artisan, which is divisible), and one boardroom (Jugtown), each of which has a name paying homage to Georgia’s 19th-century pottery industry.
Other hotel amenities will include signature accessories like a cozy, hooded bathrobe, exclusive Beekind® – high-end, socially conscious bath amenities, Drybar® – salon-quality hair dryer, bright and spacious fitness center with two Peloton bikes, an outdoor heated plunge pool with pool sun deck located on the 2nd floor rooftop, restaurant-to-go and contactless room service and complimentary Wi-Fi in guestrooms and public spaces. Guests will also have easy access to the city’s PATH400, a multi-use Greenway for bicyclists and pedestrians located along the hotel, making it easy for travelers to explore the city by foot.
